TimeRaiser and a Travelling Fund

August 13, 2011

At the following event, I attended Timeraiser as a paid guest. However, instead I wandered through the room capturing photographs and had forgotten to apply with any organization for volunteering. Night photography is not my forte, and many of these illuminated scenes relied heavily on the pop-up flash and photo-processing trickery. My camera was the robust Nikon d70s model with an 55-200mm lens (and protective UV filter).

These photos are also available for download and or creative licensing on my Flickr sets. Provided below is an excerpt from the event-community’s website.

“Timeraiser is a silent art auction where participants bid time instead of money.

Getting involved in your community isn’t always easy, so we’ve made it simple for you to find relevant and meaningful opportunities that fit your busy lifestyle.

The Timeraiser is part volunteer fair, part silent art auction and part night on the town. Throughout the evening, meet with different agencies and match your skills to their needs. Once you have made your matches, you are eligible to bid on artwork. The big twist is rather than bid money, you bid volunteer hours.

If you have the winning bid, you have 12 months to complete your pledge before bringing the artwork home as a reminder of your good will.”
