Greenwich Degree Zero

March 3, 2006

“A suicide bomber struck at a London landmark of international significance, but failed. This isn’t 2005; it’s 1894, and the bomber is French anarchist Martial Bourdin attempting to blow up the Royal Observatory.

Greenwich Degree Zero sees artist Rod Dickinson and writer Tom McCarthy revising history, proposing what might have been historical event had Bourdin succeeded in obliterating the Prime Meridian.
Impressive “footage” of the burning observatory and doctored archives of the subsequent media freak-out illustrate both historical hysteria at the threat of foreign terrorism, and the terrifying ease of rewriting history using 21st-century tools.” (via Flavor Pill)
